About Breed

The Rajapalayam is a rare and majestic breed native to Tamil Nadu, India. Known for its loyalty, courage, and agility, it was originally bred for hunting wild boar and guarding estates. With its distinctive white coat and pink skin, this muscular and powerful breed exudes elegance and strength.

Characteristics/Mentality

Rajapalayams are known for their loyalty, bravery, and intelligence. They are fiercely protective of their families and territory, making them excellent guard dogs. However, they can be wary of strangers and may require early socialization to ensure they are well-adjusted and confident.

Size And Appearance

Rajapalayams are large and muscular dogs, typically weighing between 25 to 32 kilograms (55 to 70 pounds) and standing around 65 to 75 centimeters (25 to 30 inches) tall at the shoulder. They have a sleek, short coat that requires minimal grooming, and their most distinctive feature is their white coloration with pink skin.

Health

Rajapalayams are generally healthy dogs, but like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health issues. These may include hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and bloat. Responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups can help minimize the risk of these health problems.

Fur Work

Rajapalayams have short coats that are relatively easy to maintain. They shed moderately, so regular brushing is sufficient to keep their coat clean and healthy. Bathing should be done as needed, and routine grooming such as nail trimming and teeth brushing should also be part of their care routine.
